Carob is widely cultivated for its edible pods, and as an ornamental shrub or tree in gardens. The ripe, dried pod is often ground to Carob powder, which is often used instead of cocoa powder.

The Carob tree seeds germinates quickly and easily. The seeds can be soaked in water until they double in size before being planted in seed raising mix. Carob trees are reasonably frost hardy and tolerate a wide range of soils types. Will mature two years from transplant.
