This natural botanical resin is widely valued by artists, craftspeople, and woodworkers for its high solubility in solvents, gloss production, and binding capabilities across traditional formulations.
1. Oil Painting & Picture Varnishes
Damar Resin has traditionally been used to formulate final protective picture varnishes for oil paintings. Dissolving the crystals in pure gum turpentine yields a glossy, clear coat that protects finished artwork from dust and ambient surface wear. It can also be blended directly into painting mediums to adjust drying speeds and surface luster between paint layers.
Note: This raw resin requires pure gum turpentine or aromatic solvents for dissolution and will not dissolve in standard mineral turpentine.
2. Homemade Beeswax Food Wraps
The raw crystals serve as an essential tackifying ingredient in DIY beeswax wrap recipes. Combined with pure beeswax and jojoba oil, the resin increases the pliability, grip, and durability of the wax coating on fabric.
