Black Frankincense – Natural Incense Resin
Black Frankincense, also known as Black Olibanum, is an aromatic resin obtained from Boswellia trees. It has been traded across the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, and Somalia for over 5,000 years. Frankincense is used in perfumery, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and aromatherapy.
When burned as incense, this resin produces a balsamic-spicy aroma with subtle lemon notes and a conifer-like undertone. It has traditionally been used in aromatherapy to lift mood and promote a sense of well-being.
Black frankincense also has a long history in religious and spiritual practices. It is used in many Christian churches, including Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Catholic traditions. According to the Gospel of Matthew (2:11), frankincense was one of the gifts brought to Jesus by the Magi.
