Description
Frankincense – Random Tears
Frankincense, also known as Olibanum, is an aromatic resin obtained from trees of the Boswellia genus. It has been traded across the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, and Somalia for over 5,000 years and is valued in perfumery, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and aromatherapy.
When burned on charcoal, frankincense produces a balsamic-spicy scent with a hint of lemon and a subtle conifer-like undertone. It has traditionally been used in aromatherapy to help lift mood and promote a sense of well-being.
Frankincense also holds a long history in religious and spiritual traditions. It is commonly used in Christian churches, including Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Catholic practices. In the Gospel of Matthew (2:11), frankincense was one of the gifts brought to Jesus by the Magi. Across Abrahamic faiths, frankincense has been mixed with oils to anoint newborns, initiates, and members entering new phases of spiritual life.
