Damar Gum Powder – Natural Damar Resin
Pure, high-quality Damar Gum Powder, also known as Damar Resin or Dammar Resin. Damar is a natural tree resin obtained from trees belonging to the Dipterocarpaceae family, native to parts of India and Southeast Asia.
Damar Gum is usually collected by tapping the trees, although fossilized forms can also be found naturally on the ground. The resin ranges in colour from clear to pale yellow, while fossilized Damar is generally grey-brown.
Uses of Damar Gum Powder

Oil Painting and Varnish
Damar Gum has a long history of use in oil painting. It can be dissolved in gum turpentine to make Damar varnish, which has traditionally been used as a picture varnish for oil paintings.
The consistency can be adjusted by changing the amount of turpentine used, allowing the varnish to be prepared according to the requirements of the individual application.
Note: Damar Gum is soluble in gum turpentine but not mineral turpentine.
Beeswax Wraps
Damar Gum is used in some homemade beeswax wrap recipes. It can be combined with beeswax and jojoba oil to create a coating for fabric.
Batik
Damar Gum can be incorporated into molten wax for batik. The resin helps modify the properties of the wax and can help reduce cracking when the wax is applied to materials such as silk or rayon.
Encaustic Painting
Damar resin is commonly added to beeswax for encaustic painting. It can help increase the hardness of the wax and produce a smoother, glossier finish.
The Damar resin is added directly to the beeswax and melted together before pigments are incorporated. The amount used can be adjusted according to the desired result.
