Frankincense is an aromatic resin obtained from trees of the Boswellia genus. It has been traded across the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, and Somalia for more than 5,000 years. When burned on charcoal, frankincense produces a balsamic, slightly citrus fragrance with a mild conifer-like note. It has long been used in incense for meditation, prayer, and to fragrance indoor spaces.
Myrrh is the natural dried resin of the Commiphora myrrha tree, native to Somalia, Yemen, and eastern Ethiopia. It has been valued since ancient and biblical times as an incense, perfume, and traditional medicine. When burned, myrrh produces a warm, earthy, slightly bitter aroma that is often associated with ritual and contemplative use.
