The Kola Nut is the fruit of the kola tree, native to the tropical rainforests of Africa. Human use of the Kola Nut, like Guarana, Coffee and Tea, appears to have ancient origins. The caffeine containing Kola Nut is commonly chewed in many West African cultures, often in a social setting, to help support vitality and healthy energy. Kola nuts are seen as symbols of kindness and hospitality and are used in some parts of Africa as a medium of exchange.

Kola Nut is an important part of the traditional spiritual practice of culture and religion in West Africa, particularly Niger and Nigeria. In the 1800s, John Pemberton, a pharmacist in Georgia created the first cola soft drink using extracts of Kola Nut and Coca leaf as ingredients. Kola Nut also plays a role in cultural and spiritual practices in parts of West Africa, including Niger and Nigeria. In the late 1800s it was one of the botanical ingredients used in the creation of the first cola-style soft drink, combined with coca leaf extract.

Kola Nut naturally contains caffeine, theobromine, theophylline and related compounds. The seeds also include flavonoids and other plant constituents.

Because of its natural caffeine content, Kola Nut is commonly used for its stimulating character. Individuals who are sensitive to caffeine should take care and consider starting with a low amount.
